DISCOGRAPHY PART ONE 

 - THE ODE YEARS -

From 1972 to 1975 NZ folkrock artist John Donoghue and Ode producer Terence O'Neil-Joyce released two 12" albums and four 7" singles of  Donoghue's original compositions on the Ode Record Company label.

Some of these recordings were originally released under John Donoghue's own name, but these days they all get lumped together in the 'Timberjack Donoghue' basket.

All Timberjack Donoghue recordings from the Ode years are available on Spotify etc.

- THE  ODE SINGLES -

The Timberjack Donoghue Singles were released one per annum in 1972, 1973, 1974 & 1975.
Set out below are the four A sides listed in their chronogical order.

"DAHLI MOHAMMED" - The Ode Single that started it all. Originally written for the band "Timberjack," John Donoghue's first solo release received a nomination for NZ "Single of the Year Award" 1972.

"REQUIEM FOR COUNTY GAUL" - The first New Zealand recording to protest French Nuclear Testing in the South Pacific, The release of this third Timberjack Donoghue single coincided with New Zealand protesting at Mururoa Atoll.

"SPIRIT OF PELORUS JACK" - The second Ode Single and the title track of the award-winning Timberjack Donoghue debut album. The song was inspired by and dedicated to "Pelorus Jack," a world famous New Zealand Dolphin.

"THE INSURANCE MAN" - The fourth and final single of the Ode period. With it the Timberjack took one last swipe of his axe at the global corporations before exiting his solo recording career in 1975.

- THE ODE ALBUMS -
The Timberjack Donoghue Overground period produced two Albums.
These were released in 1973 & 1975.

"SPIRIT OF PELORUS JACK" - Winner of NZ Album of the Year Award 1973. The Timberjack Donoghue debut album now occupies a unique place in New Zealand's folkrock history.

"TIMBERJACK DONOGHUE" - Since its release in 1975, the vinyl version of the critically-acclaimed "Donoghue" album has become an international collector's item.

-THE BAND ALBUMS-

Many of the groups listed over in the history section released records, but the two bands below were the only ones to produce albums while John Donoghue was a member.

"THE HUSTLER" - The Human Instinct's 1974 Concept Album. "The Hustler" was the band's first attempt at an all-original rock opera and was set in the prohibition days of the 1930's.

"THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN" - The gold-plated debut album from one of NZ's most loved country bands. "The Only Game in Town" spawned two hit singles, went gold and won "NZ Country Album of the Year Award."
